Shady Queens is back - and we’re online, mama!
Here’s the tea – you may know Shady Queens as the intimate, interactive, and fabulously shady annual live variety show featuring the stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race in support of Fife House. For four shady years from 2016 to 2019, this eleganza extravaganza sold out the Danforth Music Hall every October to crowds of Fife House supporters and Drag fans alike. We slayed the house down year after year with the BIGGEST names in Drag, as well as featuring rising stars from the local scene. It was the ONLY 100% not-for-profit drag show of its kind and we raised $550,000 for people living with HIV/AIDS in Greater Toronto Area! Come through!
The COVID-19 pandemic has unfortunately impacted our ability to hold live events like Shady Queens. We can no longer gather in-person with our community as we once did. We cancelled Shady Queens in 2020 and have had to officially cancel again this year in 2021. BUT - we will not sashay away so easily! We are no less committed to raising funds for Fife House’s programs and services so…. *drum roll* introducing the Official Shady Queens Store!
*THWORP* You can now buy an official Shady Queens fan – a trademark of the Shady Queens live show – in one of three original designs! And we will be expanding our offerings of Official Shady Queen merchandise very soon. As always, ALL proceeds go directly to Fife House to continue funding much needed support and services to our community. WERK!
Fife House is an innovative, client-focused provider of secure and supportive affordable housing and services to people living with HIV/AIDS in the Greater Toronto Area.
Fife House is recognized as a North American leader in its delivery of services, which are focused on enhancing quality of life, building on individual strengths and promoting independence – recognizing that access to secure and affordable housing is a key determinant for the health and well-being of people living with HIV/AIDS. Toronto Star 2020 Readers’ Choice Award Diamond Winner for Best Non Profit/Foundation.
In 2019/2020, Fife House served more than 700 residents and clients. We provided support services to more than 300 residents/clients through our Supportive and Transitional Housing Programs and to an additional 356 clients, including families, through our Homeless Outreach Program.
Shady Queens is part of Fife House’s former Spotlight brand, a Broadway themed variety event that helped raise money for our programs and services from 2000 - 2015. In 2016, the event was reimagined as Shady Queens, an intimate and interactive experience featuring cast members of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
For four years, Shady Queens was a sold-out event at the Danforth Music Hall with more than 5100 people in attendances and $550,000 raised for people living with HIV/AIDS in the Greater Toronto Area. The event’s success is due in large part to a dedicated group of volunteers who came together annually to give back to their community.
While the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our ability to hold large in-person gatherings like Shady Queens, we are committed to continuing to raise funds for Fife House’s programs and services through the Shady Queens Store! The fans have been a staple of the event and you can now purchase them here! All proceeds from this store are directed to Fife House to continue to provide much needed support and services to our community.
